Linda of the Night

Linda of the NightLinda of the Night by Monica La Porta

My rating: 5 of 5 stars

I received a free copy of this short story in exchange for an honest review.

I have loved everything that I have ever read by Monica LaPorta and this one did not disappoint. Linda was born into a culture where standards or beauty are drastically different from our own. Her parents and all those in her family had told her how ugly she was her entire life. Isolated in a tower, she escapes into the night only looking for a bit of freedom when she finds a kind stranger. Unable to see her features hidden under heavy cloaks, he becomes her only friend.

There is so much in this short story. We feel the sadness of Linda as she is outcast and made to feel ugly. The differences in cultural norms aside, beauty is still in the eyes of the beholder and its is certainly more than skin deep. Diamante and Linda are wonderful characters, so alive and full of depth.

I loved this story and would recommend this to anyone who loves a good love story or fairy tale.
